One Last Cast

As we get older, we tend to be much more aware of the changing of the seasons. The days start to dwindle, and the leaves begin their graceful twisting dance to the ground. Each time out becomes a little shorter, and as the dusk turns to dark we need to pack up our gear and end the day sooner than the last.

But always after just one last cast.

Once or twice we may even catch something, but that's not why we do it. It seems to have become a way to close the day in a proper manner and bid adieu to the water until the next time. There's something almost reverent about it. Perhaps its just an old habit from childhood when we would yell out "Just one more time!"

This time of year, the setting sun even provides a different glow on the water, and we begin to realize that along with the changes of season comes the anticipation of being in the woods with our bows, shotguns, and rifles for an entirely new adventure. We also experience a fresh chill in the air, roll our sleeves down, secure an extra button at the neck, and maybe even think to remember and bring a jacket the next time.
